Abstract

The present study examines the manifestations and interactions of postmodernist discourse in the story “two quails” written by Mohammad Reza Safdari. The primary question of this research is how a text can challenge the established rules of representation and propose new modes of depiction. This study employs a qualitative content analysis based on existing documents, drawing on key concepts from Jean-Francois Lyotard, such as the event, the postmodern sublime, the conflict and struggle of sentences and the issue of identity. The findings suggest that Safdari disrupts linear structure and direction of the narrative, challenging the reader's assumptions and immersing them in a persistent state of confusion. Safdari's text possesses an event-like quality that resists judgment based on conventional discourse genre principles and modern narrative rules, offering innovative techniques and forms of representation. Safdari's narrative reflects a chaotic global condition where structural continuity and sematic coherence are questioned. This indeterminacy is evident not only in the content but also in formal aspects of expression and language.
