There are different views to explain the symbol, its meaning and value, its internal mechanism and its ontological or epistemological significance. Among these, the tradition of ontological analysis and the tradition of epistemological analysis are particularly important. The first view has been analyzed in an independent essay; therefore the present essay is only concerned with the epistemological aspects of the symbol. In the epistemological analysis, it is possible to examine the methods and fundamentals of studying the symbol, through asserting on the the equal/ unequal epistemological aspects of the language of science and the language of art. Based on this, the following article is to clarify the tradition of epistemological analysis of the symbol so as to clarify a) according to which arguments the symbol is saturated with meaning and value, and b) how does the separation or integration of the language of science and the language of art explain the nature of the symbol. Therefore, the current research, while critically rereading the tradition of epistemological analysis of the symbol, tries to give a clear answer to the question of what point of view has been adopted in the mentioned tradition regarding the concept, position and function of the symbol.
